Macro Composition

*Note: Images seem to have trouble loading. If you try a few times you should be able to see them all. If this does not work, right clicking on the white space and opening the image in a new tab or window seems to work fine. Thank you for your patience.

A series of macro images taken with both my Sony DCS-W290 and Canon SX20IS. A few are taken from the past year, though most were taken in two separate photo shoots this past week.

  1. Beth,

You did such an excellent job with your collage! I find this collage very beautiful because when I look at it I immediately think "vintage." To me these pictures have a very vintage feel to them. Some of the photos that I feel are particularly vintage looking are the black/white cigarette pack, the photo of your hand, the photo of your legs and feet on the stairs, the glass half empty and the cup with Japanese writing on it. These photos just have an old-time feel to them and this is something that I love!

You did a really great job!

  2. Thanks Nikki! When you say the one of the hand, do you mean the hand on foot or hand on leg?

  3. My faves are included in yours: the feet, the hand w/ rings foreshortened, the clothes on the line (even though that is far from Macro) and the glass on the fence. You've got a great eye. Remember macro is very close up. What are the pink ones? Maybe they are flower petals or fabric, hard to tell, but I like them too.
Plus, congrats on being one of the first posters this week!

  4. Lisa,

I took every shot with the lens less than 5" from the subject, most of them were taken with it pretty much on the object. My Canon has two different macro lenses; One of which is stationary at 5mm focal length, the other that can focus to infinity. I used both for this project.

  5. Also, if you click on the collage it will open in original size. This should help you discern what the pink image you were unsure about is. There are four possibilities so I'm not certain which one you were referring to.

  6. Your collage is so bold and bright, I love it! The pink really pops on the black background! I like how even though all the photos are completely different there is an organized feeling to the piece as a whole. It looks very clean and beautiful! Great job!

  7. Beth,

My fave hand photo would have to be the hand on foot one! The angle is great and you can see your rings and finger nails. Its a great shot! I think you have a really good eye!

  8. I love your collage. There are so many warm colors that draw my eye in. Very interesting choice of mixture with the photos. I agree that it gives a 'vintage' feel, very cool.

  9. Nice job! I really like the coke glass- how it captures the texture of the paint. The clothes on the line are very cool, too!

  10. I love the blend of black and white with color, but that there is the element of pink which ties it together.

  11. Thanks for clarifying on your focal depth, Beth. I think it's a shoe, maybe the ones you have on in the foreshortened legs pict. that I find intriguing.

  12. I really love everything about your collage. The way is is arranged with the black boarders, the right amount of color in the right spots, the contrasting photos, and the different angles you used!

    Truly inspiring!!!

  13. Kristin - Thanks. I like the clothes one as well. To me it's the contrast of the stiffness of Steven's ABU pants with my flowly dress.

Lisa - No problem. And yes, other than the flower and glass, the pink is shoes.

    Laurie - Thanks :D

  14. I tried to take a picture of my foot as well. It turns out my feet are pretty disgusting and I didn't want to burden the class with the horror of sharing them. I like the clothes on the line the angle makes it look like a tiny person is taking a picture of a giants closes.

  15. Awesome work Beth. I really enjoy the angles that you were able to capture. I especially like the clothes hanging on the line and the view looking down the legs at the high-healed shows. Very intersting. You can tell you have been into photography for quite some time. Thanks for sharing.

  16. Awesome Job Beth! You are very talented. I feel that the clothes on the line stand out and have the sunlight shining in the background makes that picture feel like it would be in the summertime! Great job. I love the layout and the use of color and B&W and the various angles that you capture! Excellent

  17. Thanks Paula! The summery feel is because though it is technically winter here, it's a tropical island so it was in the 70s that day. :)
